Among the library lovers I know are Pat Clay, whose favorite book is “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie”; Betty Pruett and her grandson, Will, who brought his Bible story book for Miss Glenda to mend; Fran Phillips, who reads everything; Adolph Solomon and Barb Rollins, who love classic film day; Peggy Childs, who brings her grandchildren to Wacky Wednesday every week; Frances Tatum Ralls, who lives nearby; Paul Gore, who remembers the Gadsden High fire in ’72; Glenda Hicks, whose granddaughter, Juliana, practically grew up at the library; Barbara Hagedorn, who always has news about her daughter, Amie; Marge Ross, who is younger than springtime; Sarah Ashley who has retired from working at the library — twice; Susan Allred and her beautiful children; Kirsten and Braelyn Workman, who play “library” at home; Judge Bobby Junkins, who is a walking Gadsden history book and to whom an entire area is dedicated; Hazel Oliver, who has been on the Library Board Foundation in the Friends of the Library for as long as she can remember; Joshua O’Leary, who loves the computer room; Jeremiah Sims, who participated in the citywide Martin Luther King program; 11-month old Bella Blackmon and her big brother, Brady, who come to the library at odd and beautiful moments; Mike and Ann Goodson, who come to the library on Saturday even; and I could go on and on.

The penultimate Nancy Drew sleuth, enthusiast, collector, and historian Jennifer Fisher will be on the Today Show tomorrow on NBC with Al Roker.
In honor of the 80th anniversary of Nancy Drew, the Today Show via Al's Book Club for Kids, will be doing a book club segment on the first Nancy Drew book (The Secret of the Old Clock) and the first Hardy Boys book (The Tower Treasure). So tune in if you have a chance. Jennifer will, no doubt, be talking about the legions of children over many generations who were influenced by the independent girl detective. Nancy Drew books have a rich history that reflects the eras in which the various editions were created.
I loved Nancy Drew books as a child and the main characters of Dead Frog on the Porch are inspired by her and learned much about sleuthing from reading Nancy Drew books.
Indeed, my debut novel has been called "Nancy Drew for the ipod generation" by Shenaaz Nanji Governor General Award Finalist 2008. So if you loved Nancy Drew books as a child, chances are your children or grandchildren will love Dead Frog on the Porch.
